Multi session burning is a process of recording/writing data on a disc conducted in more than one session. In a multi session disc, additional data can still be added in a later time if there’s still space left on the disc after the first session. This process seems a bit practical when you only have a very few files to burn in a particular instance but it is still more efficient to burn data files all at once since every session has its own lead in, lead out and program area that can take up to 20MB of space. Burning Requirements:
For system requirements and installation guide click CopytoDVD Installation Guide. Getting Started Step 1: Insert the blank DVD into your DVD burner Step 2: Open CopytoDVD program
Step 3: Click on Data and then select Create Data CD/DVD
Step 4: Click on settings button and then click on Multisession tab. By default the four check boxes are checked. You can uncheck the other boxes except for “Create/Continue multisession media”. Make sure this option is always check unless you already wanted to finalize the disc. Click on the dropdown menu and select your desired action then click ok to confirm the changes.
Step 5: In the File Browser window pane you can browse for the files that you want to burn and then just simply drag them on the Project window pane. On the left side of the program interface under Project Details you can see the number of files added, total file size and the free space remaining. If you wish to change the disc title/label you can right click on the NewDisc located in the Project window pane and then select rename. Type your desired text and hit enter.
Step 6: After you have added all the files that you wanted to burn click on the burn button to start the burning process. When burning is done, the disc will automatically eject and a message window will popup that it has been completed. Removed the disc and close the drive then click on the close button to exit the message window. If you wish to save the project so you can keep track of the remaining free space you can click on the save button and type the name of your project then save otherwise close the program. Check the disc if you have successfully burned your files.
Adding Files on the disc Step 7: When adding files on your multi session disc just simply insert it on your DVD burner then repeat Step 2-Step 6. If you have saved the first session then you can open the project after Step3 by clicking on the Open button in the upper left before proceeding to Step4. You can continue adding files on your multi session disc by following the same steps until you consume all the free space on the disc. Don’t forget to save everytime you’re done burning to update the status of your project. Closing the disc Step 8: It is always important to close or finalized the disc after burning the final session to make the disc readable to other DVD drive. Before you burn the final batch of files or before the disc run out of free space we need to set the program to close the disc after completing the final session. In Step 3 when you open the settings page uncheck “Create/Continue multisession media”. It will then enable the “Ask what to do” drop down menu. Click on that menu and select “If enough space left, write data and close media” option. With these settings even if you still have plenty of free disc space you can no longer add files on your disc.
