How to download Youtube Videos and burn them to DVD

Why download Youtube videos when you can simply watch them online anytime you like and anywhere you go, for as long as you have internet access?  Sometimes, you will find it very necessary to download a video from Youtube and burn it to a DVD for presentation purposes, documentation, file collections or what have you. This guide will help download Youtube videos and burn them to DVDs more easily.

There are so many ways and tools you could use to download Youtube videos.  Some use third party software that requires installation, while some simply install a plug-in on their browser to give them the option to download the video they are currently viewing.  This guide will show you how to download Youtube videos in very easy ways.

Just recently Youtube already supported videos in High-Definition (HD) format which is more desirable compared to the standard .flv format as far as quality is concerned.  You may have noticed this on the site, when watching Youtube videos you will find the HQ button at the lower right corner of the video screen lying between the volume and the full screen buttons.

Clicking on this button will reload and switch the video to a high-definition format for better quality. If you are not able to find the HQ button on that location, this means there’s no HD quality version available for that particular video.

In order to download HD quality or the MP4 version of the videos you will need a plug-in for your browser. Below are the guides on how to download both the standard and the HD version of Youtube videos:

Downloading the Standard (FLV) version:

Step 1: Open http://www.grabthatvideo.com in your browser

Step 2: Copy the URL of the Youtube video that you want to download

Step 3: Go back to Grabthatvideo site and paste the copied URL in the YOUTUBE URL: box

Step 4: Click the DOWNLOAD button and wait for the popup window that will prompt you to either open or save the file.  Select the “save file” option and click the “OK” button.  Next, open the folder where you want to save the file, and then click the save button.

That’s it! You now have a copy of the video in .flv format saved into your hard drive. To watch the video you may use the VLC media player. To burn the video to DVD click How to create a custom DVD for a step-by-step guide on how you can burn this video to DVD.

Step 3:  When you’re about done with installing the extension, click on “Restart Firefox” button to complete the installation.
