How to create chapters on your personally authored DVD

Creating chapters on a personally authored DVD is a convenient way of navigating from one scene to another.  It is especially useful  if you want to continue a partially watched film. It lets you easily locate a particular  chapter of a movie.

When you create your own DVD using either Super DVD Creator or ConvertXtoDVD software,  you automatically create chapters. In this guide, I’m going to walk you through how to add, delete or edit chapters using both tools.

Using Super DVD Creator

If this is your first time  to use this tool you might want to check Converting video files to DVD using Super DVD Creator guide first, and follow steps 1-5 before proceeding. You can create chapters  in each video file that you have just added.

Step 1: Make sure to put a check in the box for Create DVD Chapter Menu. A chapter menu tab will then appear beside the Title Menu tab.

Step 2: First, select the movie title in the thumbnail then click on Chapter Menu. In the chapter menu page you will see thumbnails of chapters that the program automatically creates. To edit the chapters click on  button to open the Chapter Property window.

Step 3: To add a new chapter, just type in your desired time to set the marker or the breakpoint and click on the + button.

To edit the existing chapter, highlight the chapter time in the Current Chapter List panel, and change the time setting in the input time field, then click on the edit chapter button.

To delete a chapter, highlight the chapter time that you want to delete in the Current Chapter List panel and click on the delete chapter button.

Step 4: When you are ready to save the settings you made, you may now click on the check button to accept the changes  and to go back to the Chapter Menu page.  The new chapters you just created will be shown right on this page.

If you wish to edit the chapters of other movie titles just go back to the Title Menu page then repeat Steps 2-4.

Using ConvertXtoDVD

For a complete guide on how to use ConvertXtoDVD in creating your own DVD movie click here.

Step 1: You can fix the time interval in order for  the program to automatically set markers or breakpoints, and create  chapters depending on the length of your video file.  For  instance, you can set the program to create chapters every  five minutes,  hence, if you have a 30-minute video file then ConvertXtoDVD will automatically generate  six chapters.

To set a fix time interval, open CovertXtoDVD and click on “Settings” from the top menu to select chapters.  In the “Settings” window under the “Chapters” tab, make sure to check the box for “Create Chapter Every” and specify the time in min:sec format.  You may leave the box for “For Title Set Longer Than” unmarked or specify a time if you wish to.  To apply your changes, click on the OK button.

Step 2:  To manually create chapters, make sure to uncheck the box for  “Create Chapter every”. Add the video file that you wish to burn and expand the Titleset # by clicking on the [+].

Step 3: Under the Titleset you will see several parameter settings. Look for Chapter and click on [+] to expand. You will have a default chapter at 0:00 min which is the start point.

Step 4: Add, delete and edit a chapter.

4.1 Adding a new chapter. To add a new chapter, right click on Chapter and select “Add Chapter”. “Add a Chapter” window will then open to let you set the breakpoint. The default time is 5:00 min. Just click on the up and down arrow to adjust the settings or  enter your desired time in hr:min:sec format. Click on OK to apply the changes.

4.2 Deleting a chapter. To delete a chapter, highlight the chapter you want to delete, then right click and select Remove Chapter.

4.3 Editing a chapter. To edit a chapter, double click on the chapter that you wish to edit and type in your desired settings and hit enter.
