Why Backup DVDs?

DVD Backup

Backing up DVDs can be laboriously, tormenting and downright time exhausting. Depending on the procedure, the program available and the computer, it can be a chore that most folks disregard. However, if you have a large DVD collection, or even just information saved on DVDs, backing these up is a good idea. Learning how to backup DVDs takes just a little time. It can save a lot of heartache down the line if something happens to those favorites of yours.

When it comes to your favorite DVDs, over time, the more you watch them the easier it is for them to become scratched up, damaged or otherwise ruined. DVDs are not all of the time expensive, but it can be expensive over time to continuously replace ones that become inoperable. By taking preventive measures, backing up DVDs and stashing them in a secure place, you can see to it that your DVDs last a great deal longer than you ever anticipated.

If you do not believe backing up DVDs is for you, think about your DVD collection first. Think what would materialize if you mess up five to seven of your favorite films from that collection beyond repair. DVDs are typically anywhere from $15 to $20 a piece, you are wasting a lot of cash if those DVDs break down down the line. In a few instances, you might not even be able to find those classics, limited editions or special edition releases once again without spending a lot more than you bargained for. By backing those copies up, if something happens to the genuine copy, you can still enjoy those films for years to come, particularly if something happens to the master copy DVD itself.

Another court hearing is scheduled this week in San Francisco regarding the movie industry arguments against RealDVD software package. San Francisco court could come up with a conclusion this week or soon thereafter if RealNetwork’s $30 software package violates copyrights and should therefore be permanently stop from distribution.

They have already been ordered to stop since last October when the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) won a temporary restraining order, forcing RealDVD off the market.

To RealDVD spokesperson Bill Hankes, the case is simple.

"The consumer should have the same fair use rights to copy DVDs just as they have for the last decade with music."

One of the most important aspects of the law is that it changes. New laws are constantly being written. And this is particularly true with copyright law and how that relates to digital recording.

The digital age did not exist a few years ago. Then, very slowly, it started. And that meant the law was behind when DVD burning became all the rage. The law takes a while to catch up with what is happening in the world.

But technology waits for no man. Once DVDs replaced video tapes, along came the software manufacturers with programs which could enable you to burn DVDs and to do it easily. The law took its time but a few years ago ruled that this type of software was illegal. Now that has changed. You can now buy legal software which is designed to help you burn a DVD.
