DVD care and handling

Dos and Don’ts for your DVD Collection

Do handle discs by the center hole or the outer edges.
Don’t bend or warp the disc.

Do use a non-solvent-based felt-tip marker to label a side of the disc.
Don’t apply adhesive labels.

Do keep discs in an upright position in separate plastic DVD cases.
Don’t horizontally store discs for a period of years.

Do put back discs in their cases after use.
Do avoid environmental damage by keeping discs in their cases when possible.
Don’t expose recordable discs to ultraviolet light.

Do keep a recordable disc in its pack until time for recording.
Don’t open a recordable disc if you are not set to record.

Do keep discs in a cool, preferably dim environment.
Don’t expose your discs to extreme temperatures.

Do use clean cotton to wipe off any dirt or fingerprints, wiping from the center towards the outside of the disc.
Don’t may any markings on the disc’s data area.
Do use DVD-cleaning detergent or isopropyl alcohol to cleanse the disc of hard to remove material.

For long-term storage the following conditions are prime for DVD’s:

Temperature:Less than 68 degrees Fahrenheit, Greater than 39 degrees Fahrenheit
Relative Humidity: 20% to 50% RH
