DVD Burning in Windows XP E-mail

DVD burning has become a very popular past time for individuals as more and more people own computers. There are many things you can do with a DVD burner. Do you have hours of video tapes of your children when they were small, birthday parties, sporting events, or even vacations? You can turn that footage into a DVD without too much effort. They are the perfect way to preserve your memories and you can make copies of them to give to family members so that they can enjoy them as well.

Many people choose to burn their DVD’s to have a backup in the event that the original gets lost or damaged. It is also convenient to take the copies when you travel to use on a portable DVD player or your laptop. You can also compile more than one item onto a DVD so you won’t have to carry so many with you when you travel yet you will still have access to everything you want.

To be able to successfully burn DVD’s you will likely have to have Windows XP on your computer. Most of the newer DVD burning software programs require it because it is effective and fast. Windows XP is a very common software system that most people already use for home and business so  in many cases you won’t have to buy it. However, Windows XP doesn’t offer a  built in support for burning DVD’s. The information available from Microsoft suggests that the next version they release will contain that support.

For now you will have to use drivers that are compatible with Windows XP so that you can transfer and copy data to DVD’s. You will also need to use DVD burning software to complete the project. If you have Windows 2000 you won’t be able to burn DVD’s. It will let you start the process but the data won’t transfer. If you are having trouble completing the data transfer the reason is likely to be the drivers you are using. Most DVD burners on the market include Windows XP as a system it supports. You will be doing yourself a favor if you only choose one that does.

One great feature of Windows XP, especially if you are burning videos of your own recording that you want to compile, is the ability to edit. If you don’t have the current version of Windows Movie Maker you can download it from the Microsoft site. To start you will need to insert a writable DVD disk into the media center disk drive. You should consult your owner’s manual to find out which types of writable disks your system supports.

From the menu select My TV and then Recorded TV. From here you will select that data you want to burn. Once you have selected it choose the More Info option. Select the one that says Create CD/DVD. You should be directed to a disk formatting page where you want to select the Video DVD option. If that option is not displayed then you know you do not have the right tools installed to successfully burn a DVD.

After you have gotten it corrected, select the Create DVD option and say Yes when it asks if you want to Initiate Copying. The amount of time it will take to compress and copy the DVD depends on the speed of your computer connection, the amount of free disk space you have, and how much material you are copying. Once you create your burned DVD’s you will be able to enjoy them in any DVD player, portable DVD player, or laptop.
